Laura Menzies Team Leader Kia ora I’m Laura.  Originally from Auckland but I have lived in West Virginia, Pakiri Beach and Hamilton before finding my forever home in the beautiful Taranaki.  I’ve been a youth worker since 2012 and joined START in 2013.  Previously I was a live sound technician, a horse trekking guide/instructor and a traveller.   AT START:  I work together with the boys, their whanau and their social worker to develop a strong plan for them while they are at START and when they have transitioned back into the community.  I love that I get to be part of an amazing team who are all super passionate about their jobs and the boys.  Every day is fun and it’s awesome to watch the boys expand their comfort zones and take on the challenges we offer.   It’s a proud moment seeing their growth, as they come out the other side as mature young men, with the confidence and the skills to make positive life decisions.  START is special because it offers long term ongoing support for both the boys and their whanau. Hobbies: Outdoors, horses, good vibes

Sam Galloway Practice Manager sam@starttaranaki.co.nz My name is Sam Galloway. I have worked in the youth sector since I was 21 and also have a young daughter named Isabella. I am originally from Christchurch but moved up to Taranaki after the February earthquakes. Before coming to work at START I worked as a youth worker with Child Youth and Family and also ran a musical programme for youth interested in Hip Hop through the White Elephant Trust in Christchurch.      I think START is important because it takes our at risk youth out of there comfort zones and makes them face new challenges and responsibility. I like START because I am able to be myself and work with other individuals who bring their own different strengths to the table.  I learn a lot every time I come to work. I think START is most important because it gives our young people a second chance to succeed with support.

Hi my name is Joash Daly I currently live in a small town around the coast of Taranaki called Okato. I spent most of my life in Hawera. I grew up playing lot of sport, everything from rugby league, skateboarding, table tennis through to basketball, volleyball and touch. I've always had a passion for sport and connecting with people while playing sport. My working background ranges from working in the freezing works, farming, scaffolding through to cleaning, painting and trade assistant work.

I am here at START because I have a passion to be a positive influence in peoples lives, and to be a friend, brother and someone dependable for the boys and my peers involved with START. I think START is awesome, I really enjoy waking up surrounded by supportive work colleagues who are like family and seeing the young men who do the programme start fulfilling the potential that lies within each of them.

Hobbies/interests: At the moment I'm into people, weights, touch, basketball, surfing, golf, diving and following professional sport mainly the NBA and golf majors.
